How to Pay Off a Maxed Credit Card Quicker

If you have a maxed out credit card and are simply making the minimum monthly payments, it may seem like you'll be making monthly payments forever. And you may very well be. There is a way to cut down the amount of time it will take to pay it off. That is simply by adding extra money to the payment. If you add an extra ten or fiften dollars a month to the payment, you can cut years off the amount of time it will take to pay it off, and the savings in interest will be a significant amount. Your creditor will not turn your payment down and must deduct it from your account.

A maxed out credit card is very similar to a fast payday loan or a fast car title loan. If you try to get by with only paying the interest payments you don't make any progress and the principle remains the same. It just sits there collecting more interest every month. The difference is that the fast loans usually have a deadline in which the full amount must be paid off. Credit cards don't have a deadline, they will let you continue to pay forever.

Simply adding whatever amount you can to the payment each month will help tremendously in getting it paid off faster. On the other hand if you're making minimum monthly payments simply because you just don't have it, try to find ways
to cut back on something and use that money to pay off the credit card.

Here's a few ideas to look at in cutting expenses. First, do you really have to have the newspaper everyday. Why not just get the Sunday news. The Sunday news is usually an overview of everything that happened that week, or check and see if your newspaper is available for free online. Get the news from your local TV station online.

If you're spending extra money to rent movies, check the internet, there are lots of ways to get TV and movies that don't cost a thing. Try trading movies with friends and neighbors.

Take a bag lunch two or three days a week to work. Make it fun and it won't feel like a sacrifice. You pack your spouses lunch and let your spouse pack yours.

Stop buying coffee and soft drinks everyday. Take a thermos or a soft drink from home. Better yet ditch the soft drinks and take juice or flavored water. You can flavor your own water with fruit juice or another flavoring aide. A good squirt of lemon juice and a little sweetner is a real thirst quencher.

Think of ways to cut back that you won't really miss. Don't make it feel like a real sacrifice or you will resent not being able to have the things you normally have.

Keep your goal in sight- a paid off credit card! Then cancel the card, you don't need the temptation.
